It's a long and rigorous road upon which the artist must
travel in the pursuit of his or her own creative evolution. Starting as an art editor in the first years upon completion of his
Masters of Arts, George Antonov has gained his recognition as an artist due to thirty years of consistent work.
During his career, George has created numerous sculptures, mosaics and frescoes for display in government buildings, theatres,
hospitals and schools. He has also participated in numerous national and international exhibitions in Prague Czech., Havana Cuba,
Marostica Italy and Moscow. His paintings are in possession of numerous prestigious galleries as well as private collections across
Europe and North America.
The turning point in George's career came with his gradual distancing from monumental commissions to the seclusion of his private
studio where, unconfined to restrictions, he became devoted to strictly meditative and personal creative endeavours. It is during this
time that artist detaches from the restrictions of reality and draws inspiration from aesthetics which are sincere and honest in
nature such as children's drawings and Native African Art. Through this process, works are cleaned of any unnecessary details, in
turn reducing the composition to the underlying concept. At this level the work is at its most accessible point to the viewer.
Symbolism and concept replace benile narrative and the artist's memories, dreams and visions serve as a base for the concept for
the composition. The rough texture and finish of the works are a result of a nostalgic and familiarity with the medium of fresco
painting and thus the surface texture reflects a connection between the artist and the rough and unfinished plaster he must
become familiar with when painting a fresco...
